This character started out as the main character for the short film ‘Lumen’. The location of the film was a hospital room therefore the character design had to reflect that.

The team consisted of a couple of concept artists and we all drew a version of the boy. In the end we settled on this concept art (by Muniza Fazal) and merged it with my design.

After many narrative revisions, the film focused on a different character and this model was cut. As I was far along into the modeling, I decided to continue the asset as a personal project.

This was the last revision before the character was cut from the film. I decided to get rid of the nasal cannula as I was no longer restricted to the hospital setting. After receiving some feedback from Bluezoo recruiters I re-worked the model. Mostly focusing on the head, I made the eyes larger and more round and ears bigger. I also made him chubbier all around. Next, I posed him in Zbrush using the rig function there. I also gave him a smile.

I re-did all the textures from the previous version. To add more to his story I added mud on his socks, as if he has been running through some puddles. Below you can see the completed turn around.

I stumbled upon an autumn picture and decided I wanted to make my model fit into it. I used variety of lights. Starting with a HRDI (Flower Road by HDRI Haven) I added spot lights to bring in the warmth. For sunlight through leaves effect, I used a free gobo of leaves I found online.

This is the final image after compositing in Nuke. I colour corrected the model a lot to bring in the warmth of the photograph.
