Patty Pan - Short film

Set in a world of vegetables, Patty Pan focuses on an unsuspecting Radish Man who suddenly has the responsibility of parenthood thrust upon him when he finds a baby Patty Pan on his doorstep. Though first sweet, things soon descend into chaos. Desperately trying to console patty, he soon realises that appeasing her won’t be so simple.

We took our time finding the right vegetables that would work in the setting as well as complement each other. We settled on the radish first. It has a very vibrant colour which would stand out great against the muted earth tones and he was a common garden vegetable. For the baby, we wanted something that is less common but still a vegetable that could be found in a garden . That is when we stumbled upon a patty pan courgette. The shape was cute and round and the colour would harmonise well with the pink of the radish. It also sounded like the perfect title for our film. It was my role to design and model the baby. I started off with the wrapped in leaf design, however, during the modelling stage it was changed to include feet in order to be more experimental and expressive with animation.

Mayan Girl - Character design assignment

These designs and concepts were all created for a first year concept art assignment on paper. The requirements were: a Mayan 3 year old girl, daughter of a wealthy farmer, stubborn and mischievous and her best friend is an armadillo.

The initial sketches and style experimentation led to 3 potential designs which we presented in class and everyone voted on the best one. I decided to use number 2 and draw it in the pose of number 3 as that was the most dynamic.

I chose a mountain valley for the setting and explored the styles of the buildings. After research I found the Mayan’s kept lamas. I wanted a valley setting to show off the big areas of land owned by her father.

The final environment design - acrylic on board

Designs for the armadillo. I aimed for a Disney-esque style to create an expressive design that could potentially be animated.

The final concept sculpted in plasticine.

Lumen - Short FIlm

A second year university short film. A story set on stage focuses on a sick boy in a hospital getting a visit from a friendly ghost who is looking for a playing partner, told through dance.

Environment

We were looking for a simple environment design of a children’s hospital room on a stage. The simple style was picked in order to highlight the colourful characters and their dance.

Story Board

Children's Story Character

Designs for a potential collection of children’s books revolving around the unfortunate events that a little boy stumbles into.

Young Noah

Designs created as a first version of a later university project. I explored the design for a young boy who really likes superheroes and how that could be represented in his clothing.

Behind the Rock - Short Story

Designs for a story following a young girl going on a magical woodland adventure. Created as part of a university project.
