Hi!
I’m Kate Shubin (neé Bieriezjanczuk) and I am a freelance artist based in Oregon City, OR. I have recently relocated here from London, England where I was a lecturer at London Metropolitan University teaching 3D Animation, Modeling and Effects on an undergraduate 3D Games Design course for 3 years. I hold a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in 3D Computer Animation and Modelling from University of Hertfordshire. I am both a 3D generalist and a traditional media artist.
I have worked as a freelance 3D illustrator for HarperCollins Publishers on books such as ‘Minecraft Survival Handbook’. I have also been commissioned by JD Wetherspoons and my oil painting hangs above a fireplace in one of their pubs in Hertfordshire.
In 2018 I won a Young Artist Awards competition and as a first prize winner, I exhibited solo for 2 months at a local art gallery. I sold over 50% of my work on the opening night.
Currently I’m working on my own paintings, commissions and teaching private art classes out of my home where I live with my husband and puppy.

Whatever your art goals may be, I am happy to create a lesson plan that will fit your exact needs! I work with students on an individual basis (no group sessions available) so whatever we work on will be catered exactly to you. I have a very strong emphasis on working from observation, which is why we will always be working from a reference.
Due to the academic nature of the lessons and more focused subject matter, I recommend my lessons for students aged 12+.
My approach to teaching is to paint/ draw along with the student from a reference picture selected before the session, either by me or the student. I aim to show step by step my technique approaching our chosen medium and subject matter. I am very happy to take it slowly and go line by line together, or to leave the student to work in their own process and to give suggestions and pointers along the way.
Currently I am available to teach only out of my own home, which is located in Oregon City.
